John started his martial arts training as a teenage in Chinese Kempo, followed by stints in Tae Kwon Do and Cuong Nhu. In 1993, after moving to Seattle, he discovered Wing Chun Do and was immediately hooked on the scientific and practical aspect of the system. Three months later he joined the instructor's program.
As part of his training, John taught many day and night classes at the WCD Headquarters in Shoreline WA, at the summer WCD camps on the Olympic Peninsula, at the brief WCD Redmond club, and at the Shoreline Community College Wellness Center. With the closing of the Shoreline club, training opportunities slowed down; however, John continues to learn and train at every chance and attends the yearly instructor camps.
John has a Masters degree in Physics and enjoys trail running, cycling, and open water swimming.
